While Illinois' state minimum wage is $8.25 per hour, Cook County has set its own, higher minimum wage rate that applies to employees of all companies who work within Cook County. Cook County's minimum wage is currently $2.75 higher than the Illinois minimum wage, and it was last raised to $11.00 per hour on 7/1/2018.
Because Cook County has a higher minimum wage rate than the one set by Illinois or the Federal government, the higher local minimum wage rate takes precedence and must be paid to all employees covered by the local minimum wage regulation.

Cook County Minimum Wage Increase
Cook County recently increased their minimum wage from $10.00 to $11.00 per hour, which took effect on July 1st, 2018. The increase raised Cook County's minimum wage by $1.00 per hour.
