While New York's state minimum wage is $11.80 per hour, Long Island & Westchester Counties has set its own, higher minimum wage rate that applies to employees of all companies who work within Long Island & Westchester Counties. A minimum wage increase is currently scheduled in Long Island & Westchester Counties, but until the effective date of 12/31/2020 the state minimum wage rate of $11.80 will apply.
Because Long Island & Westchester Counties has a higher minimum wage rate than the one set by New York or the Federal government, the higher local minimum wage rate takes precedence and must be paid to all employees covered by the local minimum wage regulation.

Long Island & Westchester Counties has a scheduled increase to the minimum wage from $13.00 to $14.00 per hour, which will take effect on December 31st, 2020. The increase will raise Long Island & Westchester Counties' minimum wage by $1.00 per hour.
